Electronic Prepress Procedures

This procedures sheet has been created to help you prepare files being submitted to Crown Press, and to ensure that files meet the requirements and guidelines of Crown Press.

Please check all electronic files thoroughly and ensure they meet the specifications listed below.

Electronic material is the preferred format

Files provided to Crown Press must conform to the specifications set below and include a digital printout for proofing purposes.

  • QuarkXPress as a document provided you supply all images (scans, .tiffs, .eps, logos, printer and screen fonts, etc.).
  • Adobe Illustrator saved as an .eps with all type "Converted to outlines," all colors to CMYK (no spot colors - see note below. Illustrator AI files will be accepted if all printer and screen fonts are provided. If they are not, we will not be responsible for reflow or errors with text).
  • Photoshop format saved as a .tiff or .eps in high resolution, 300 dpi (PSD files will be accepted. If fonts are not included, we cannot be responsible for text defaulting and reflowing.)
  • Adobe Acrobat PDF file saved in high resolution mode (Press Optimized). Other PDF files will be accepted from programs able to generate high resolution PDFs (however Crown Press is not responsible for fonts not embedded by these programs, as reflow and font default can occur).
  • InDesign as a document provided you supply all images (scans, .tiffs, .eps, logos, printer and screen fonts, etc.).
  • CorelDraw as a document provided you supply all images (scans, .tiffs, .eps, logos, printer and screen fonts, etc.) needed to print project. We prefer PDF files from this program, but we will accept the documents with all of the items mentioned above.

We do not Accept...

Digital files provided with image resolution less than 300 dpi, logos or images downloaded from the internet. These files are considered Low Resolution and Crown Press will not be responsible for the poor quality as a result of printing.

If you cannot produce electronic material in the programs listed above, please consult your sales representative about having Crown Press design and/or build the project for you.

Note: We may be required, from time to time, to adjust and manipulate your files and ensure they meet our specifications. You will be contacted if adjustments need to be made and you will be given an opportunity to resupply us with a new file, or for Crown Press to make the necessary adjustments upon your request.
